Not so long time ago religion dominated over the Israeli culture - Judaism, which is the state, as well as Islam and Christianity. But in modern society religion as it moves away into the background: the majority of Israelis lead “double life”, actively participating in both the secular and the religious part of it.
Recognize faithfuls is enough easily - dark clothes, a beard and curly whiskers (sidelocks).
The first immigrants brought the cultural values of countries from which they came, and before the proclamation of an independent state of Israel, the traditions of Central and Eastern Europe are dominated here.
In a modern state music, movie, literature reflect the cultural heritage of the Jewish people and the national character, which has developed over many centuries.

Literature
The greatest Jewish poet of our time Khim Nahman Bialik and Nobel laureate Shmuel Yosef Agnon wrote to the revival of Hebrew. Also quite well-known representatives of the new generation of writers are Hanoch Bartov and Moshe Shamir.
