Ex-Prime Minister Ehud Olmert will be the first head of the cabinet, who will stand appear in court on charges of criminal offenses. As the Israeli radio reported today, the Attorney General Menachem Mazuz brought the indictment into Jerusalem District Court, broadcasted ITAR-TASS.
Olmert is imputed guilt of receiving bribes, fraud, breach of trust, forgery and tax evasion in the period from mid 1990 to 2005. Results appear in three episodes. Olmert is accused of having obtained large sums of cash (approximately $ 600 thousand) from American businessman Morris Talansky, and that the committed staff appointments in the public investment centers in the interests of private companies (even as Minister of Industry). The last episode of the charges - double funding for overseas travel ex-Prime Minister and his family through community organizations (case Rishon Tours).
In the aggregate, Olmert faces the prospect of a long prison term, but he hopes to prove his innocence. Date of the hearing has not announced yet.
