Federal department of foreign affairs of Switzerland exclaimed surprise and regrets concerning to excessively sudden critical statements which follows the decision of Israel to withdraw the ambassador in Bern for consultations.
On Monday Tel Aviv made decision to withdraw the ambassador in protest of a meeting of the president of Switzerland Hans-Rudolf Mertsa with the Iranian leader Mahmudom Ahmadinezhadom who arrived to Geneva for participation in the international conference against racism, a racial discrimination, xenophobia and all intolerance connected with them.
Ahmadinezhadom, called earlier to “erase” Israel from a world map, from a high tribune named the Jewish state as “the most savage and racist regime”. It called indignation of some delegates from the European countries which as protest left a boardroom.
“The federal department of foreign affairs informed in advance the Israeli authorities about meeting of presidents of Switzerland and Iran. So those sudden statements with which various Israel representatives acted are really confusing”, - as has been told in the message of the Swiss diplomatic department.
It was noticed that in connection with these statements the temporary attorney in affairs of Israel in Bern has been called to the Swiss Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In the press release of diplomatic department is also remainded that Ahmadinezhad has arrived to Geneva to participate in the international conference organised by the United Nations, and it is noticed that Switzerland represents interests of the USA in Iran and maintain with the Iranian authorities regular dialogue.
“As to position in problem of human rights in Iran, and also statements (of Iranian president), calling into question of Holocaust and the right of the Israel state for existence” they were “clearly condemned” during the meeting of Mertsa with Ahmadinezhadom, underline by the Swiss diplomatic department.
