The leader of the right Israeli party «Likud» Benjamin Netanyahu managed to form a coalition, which will be presented not only the right-wing parties, but also the «left» Labor Party («Avoda»). As the Ma’ariv passes, next week Netanyahu will lead the new government under oath.
The key portfolios as follows. Netanyahu is not only Prime Minister but also Minister of Finance. The leader of the party «Avoda» Ehud Barak will remain Minister of Defense. The leader of the party «Our Home Is Israel» Avigdor Lieberman will become the Minister of Foreign Affairs. The leader of the religious party SHAS Eli Ishay will take the post of Minister of Internal Affairs.
«Avoda» will get the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Employment. SHAS will receive the Ministry of Construction and Housing. For «Likud» left the Ministry of Education. «Our Home Is Israel» get the Ministry of Infrastructure.
Note that in the new government except Lieberman two Russian-speaking minister will be - both of the party «Our Home Is Israel». A native of Moscow’s Stas Misezhnikov will become Minister of Tourism. A native of Leningrad Sofa Landver will take the post of Minister of Immigrant Absorption returnees.
The alliance with the party «Avoda» enabled Netanyahu to save face, but it does not make the conflict with President Shimon Peres and the United States. Both the President and the U.S. did not want to see in Israel a narrow right-wing coalition. At the same time to make a coalition with the ruling so far, a centrist party «Kadima» Netanyahu could not.
Party «Likud» won second place in the general election, held on 10 February. The ruling centrist party «Kadima», headed by Minister of Foreign Affairs Tzipi Livni, has received 28th place in the 120-member Knesset. «Likud» got 27th place. Nevertheless, Livni certainly could not form a government, as a result of the election centrists and «left» will remain in parliament much less than the «right» together.
Party «Our Home Is Israel» ranked third, receiving 15th place in the Knesset. Party «Avoda» came fourth with 13 mandates - the result of a failure for the party, which has been ruling much of the history of Israel. SHAS received 11 mandates. In sum «Likud», «Our Home Is Israel», «Avoda» and SHAS have 66 seats in the Knesset - more than half of it, and that’s why they can form a coalition without the involvement of other parties.
