Russian-Speaking multi-millionaire Arkadiy Gaydamak came off second-best on elections of mayor of Jerusalem, being able to take only the third place with 3,6% voices, testify to summed up municipal elections on Wednesday.

During next five years businessman-anticlerical Nir Barakat, which enlistes the support of 52% electors, will manage a 700-thousandth city, which Israel, despite of world association opinion, consider the “single and indivisible” capital.

On elections, which was perceived not differently, as a duel of different ideologies and vital modes, a fight between society and religious communities, Barakat passed his antipode on 9% - ultra-orthodox rabbi-member of parliament, the father of 12 children - Meira Porusha.

In victory speech, which is quoted by local radio, Barakat promised to become a “mayor for all Jerusalem’s people”, to work for the good of society and religious, Jewish and Arabic habitants. He argues against the section of Jerusalem with Palestinians, which apply on east blocks cities, occupied by Israel during war of 1967.

In Tel-Aviv the present governor of a town Ron Khuldai were reelected on the third term; a build, commercial and tourist boom in the business capital of Israel are linked with him. He prevailed over Dov Khanin, by the deputy of Knesset (parliament) from Arabo-Jewish party of communist rumour of KHADASH.

Elections in local authorities passed in 159 settlements of Israel. Basic political parties of Israel participated in a fight for the arm-chairs of mayors and deputies of city councils, for these parties this was not only possibility to fix positions on places, but also stage of preparation to February elections in national parliament.
